My Favorite Sessions: Marisa
Fall Senior Session On the
Minnesota Prairie
It was getting late in the year when I was contacted to do a senior session for Marisa, and it’s always a challenge up here in Minnesota to catch good weather. There was a little chill in the air with some rain in the forecast, but we decided to give it a shot due to our schedules.
We met at a gorgeous prairie in the southern Metro area, which was Marisa’s favorite place to be. She jumped out of the truck with a big scrunchie on and a bag of clothes, ready to have some fun. I was worried for a second about her hair being all bound up like that, and I asked her what the situation was. She just reached back, pulled off the scrunchie, and shook her head. WHOA! Incredible! We picked out some clothes based on the foliage, and set forth into the woods and fields.
The skies were overcast, creating the world’s largest softbox that illuminated everything around us, wrapping us all in the softest light. I think we made the most of it.
You wouldn’t think of the middle fall colors to be so earthy and robust, but even in these late hours before winter, nature still has some surprises on the prairie. Marisa jumped in head first into the growth without even hesitating, and we were able to make some stunning shots as the late afternoon started to give way.
One of my favorite things is to photograph natural and free flowing hair, so it can move freely with whatever nature sends our way. The breeze and the rustling of the grassland around us was the perfect setting for Marisa’s natural beauty to shine through! It was thrilling to capture her in her environment.
Another benefit we had while walking through the reserve was that we had time to create some video, and produce a video for her session. I had so much fun creating these memories for Marisa and her family, and for me as well. One of my favorite sessions ever!
I’d love to have the opportunity to work with anyone to create portraits that will stand the test of time. If you would like a consultation to discuss what we can create, let’s meet! Contact me below!
