My Favorite Sessions: The Purple Ones 4
Celebrating Prince’s Legacy with Stunning Local Fashion
In 2019, I had the opportunity to shoot my first fashion show. It was an event called ‘The Purple Ones 4’—a Prince inspired fashion contest where designers select a song, then create a garment inspired by it. The design comes to life on the runway, with their models bringing it with energetic flair.
The impact that Prince has in Minnesota is profound. Celebrating his life and style is only natural for our creative communities, and this event was no exception. The incredible talent of the local designers was on full blast and along with the energy delivered on the runway, the night turned into a rollicking party!
After the show, the top three winners receivied a photo shoot--in the very same church where Prince would sit and think about his love for music, the arts and his love for Minnesota so it’s even more special!!
What an amazing location, fantastic models, and gorgeous wardrobe! I knew that window in the balcony would be a technical challenge, but I went for the Renaissance illumination and I think we KILLED IT! We set up with Canon Speedlites, gels, and some softboxes on the stairs, and worked our way through the shoot. I cannot stress the appreciation that I have for the skill of the models involved—they made the process so memorable!
Special thanks to Quinn Villagomez (@shimmerglitz13) for the inspiration to create The Purple Ones event. Amazing hair by Nomi Luxe (@nomibadboy41) and stunning makeup by Misha Bartlett (@mishashouseoffaces). It was certainly my pleasure to work with such talented individuals!
