Loom - Cusco, Peru

from $120.00

We spent some time talking with street vendors, admiring how fast they could recreate their baubles with simple materials and deft hands. I have always appreciated fabrics and weaving, and I gravitated toward those items with that type of visual repetition of movement. We wanted to see where one group of weavers did their work, so we were brought back to their home where the entire family was hard at work creating alpaca scarves and gloves, and other textile arts.

I was brought to one area where the grandson was hard at work on the loom. His hands were flying around as his iPod cranked away. Suddenly, the sun broke in through the partially open shutters, illuminating the strands or yarn. I was able to capture this moment, and it’s one of my favorites from the entire trip.

Archival print, matted in white:
10” x 7” print matted to 14” x 11”
16” x 12” print matted to 20” x 16”.
The piece is titled and signed on the matting.
